Peking University Red Building
Peking University Red Building, established in August 1918, is a five-story classical building in Western style, and the first major premise to spread Marxism and promote democracy and science. For its significant historic value, it has become one of the first major historical and cultural sites protected at a national level since 196l. The remains of the Red Building include the President's Office, the Second Reading Room, the Office of Dean of Liberal Arts, and the Journal Office, etc. As a museum of history and culture, the Red Building now has more than a thousand exhibits on display and partial space open to the public. Visitors can visit Li Dazhao's office, the reading room where Mao Zedong worked, and the classrooms, and valuable historical relics collected.
China Bookstore
China Bookstore, founded in 1952, is China's first bookstore engaged in antique books, and a comprehensive cultural enterprise integrating books' publication, distribution, auction, collection and sales of calligraphy, paintings and artworks. China Bookstore has set up several branch bookstores, including Liulichang Bookstore and Ancient Bookstore known for books about literature, history, and art, following ancient books, as well as Qianmen Bookstore focusing on selling tourist souvenirs and Beijing specialties. Visitors coming to China Bookstore can see a wide range of historical and ancient books, as well as newly reprinted ancient books featuring thread binding, experience photocopying and reproduction, and participate in a wealth of cultural exchanges and business activities.
Huguang Guild Hall
Beijing Huguang, Guild Hall, located at southwest of Hufang Bridge, Xicheng District, was builtin 1807 by persons from Hunan and Hubei to maintain fellow friendship. There is a traditional opera house, a front hall and a memorial temple in the Guild Hall, with a garden. The traditional opera house is located at the front of the entire Guild Hall, with upper and lower viewing floors on the north, east and west sides able to accommodate a thousand people. Beijing Huguang Guild Hall is one of the most famous guild halls with the traditional opera house in Beijing now, and is also rated as one of the "four great wooden opera theatres " in the world.
Jixiang Theatre
Jixiang Theatre, situated at Wangfujing Street, Dongcheng District, was built in 1906. It is a "theater in the sky" with both traditional and modern styles, and one of the most famous theatres in Beijing, With a total gross floor area of 4,000 square meters, the Theatre sets up more than 300 seats. There are a large number of decorative paintings featuring ancient Chinese culture in the room, all of which are hand-painted, creating the strong Peking Opera culture atmosphere. As a high-end performance venue for Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera, the Theatre provides audience with a great number of opera performances. In addition, during traditional Chinese festivals, guests may participate in various intangible cultural heritage activities launched by the Theatre.
