Profound in humanity history, Luoyang is an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, the eastern end of the Silk Road, and the center of the Grand Canal of Sui and Tang dynasties. It has also served as the capital city for 13 dynasties,with the most dynasties and lasting the longest. Longman Grottoes (listed as a world heritage site), the White Horse Temple (the first official temple in China), and Guanlin Temple (Guanyu Mausoleum) built in honor of Guan Yu (a hero of the Three Kingdoms period) attract millions of tourist home and abroad annually. Different ethnic groups, religions and cultures merged here, creating the coexistence of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Luoyang is crowned as the sacred place for the Chinese civilization. Meanwhile, Luoyang is the ancestral home to 100 million Hakka people worldwide, giving birth to 70% of the Chinese surnames across the world. It has also been listed as a megacity six times consecutively. Luoyang peony is famous all over the world. Luoyang thus gained the title of “Capital of Peony” in China.
